We’re Committed to Sustainability

At Rationel, sustainability is at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to minimising our carbon footprint and to improving physical and mental wellbeing in the spaces where you live, work, learn and play. Our long-lasting, energy-efficient windows and doors are an investment in your future and in the future of the generations to come.

Caring for the Planet

The science is clear – serious action is needed to reduce greenhouse gases and to halt the negative consequences of climate change. Rationel and our parent company DOVISTA have committed to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTI). We have set ambitious targets for the near-term and for net-zero carbon reduction.

Health and Wellbeing

We spend 90% of our time inside, so it is critical to our wellbeing to have a healthy indoor climate.

Windows and doors are much more than just openings in your home. Correctly done, they are key to creating warm, welcoming, beautiful spaces.

Money well spent

Our energy-efficient, long-lasting windows and doors are an investment in your future and that of the generations to come. With our expert advice and craftsmanship, we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. Our warranties offer peace of mind, ensuring worry-free enjoyment of your new windows and doors.

Our Commitment in Action

To drive down emissions across the DOVISTA group, targets have been set to reduce our carbon footprint across our companies as well as from the utility companies from which we source our power. These targets extend to how we manage waste, transportation and to the emissions of the goods we purchase.

Dedicated Partners

The materials we use in the production of our windows and doors have by far the biggest impact on our CO2 emissions.  We are working closely with our glass, aluminium, steel and PVC suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint in the manufacture of these components.

DOVISTA CO2 Emissions

The Greenhouse Gas (Ghg) Protocol breaks down the different types of emissions generated into three scopes. For DOVISTA this is as follows;

Includes direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by DOVISTA, including our offices, production facilities and company cars.

Includes indirect emissions resulting from DOVISTA using purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling.

Includes all additional indirect emissions arising through DOVISTA’s value chain; purchased goods, waste generation and transportation.

Our Targets By Scope

Approval for our 2030 science-based targets validates our structured approach to continually measure and manage the CO2 emissions for which we are responsible. DOVISTA’s journey towards carbon neutrality is just beginning, but our progress is already tangible. Since 2021, we have reduced our internal carbon emissions by over 60 percent per unit produced.

42%

minimum reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from a 2021 base year by implementing a long-term green energy strategy.

25%

minimum reduction in Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from purchased goods and services, up and downstream transportation and distribution by 2030 from a 2021 base year

90%

minimum reduction in greenhouse gas across all three scopes by 2050 from a 2021 base year.

About Science Based Targets initiatives (SBTi)

Science-based targets provide a clearly defined pathway for companies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping prevent the worst impacts of climate change and future-proof business growth. Targets are considered ‘science-based’ if they are in line with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

FSC® certified wood

Every year we sell 350,000 windows and doors made either entirely of wood or a combination of wood and aluminium. We use high quality pine sourced from sustainable northern European forests, which means that 99.7% of the wood we use is FSC® certified. This small label guarantees that no more wood is felled than the forest itself can replace, and that animals, plants and the people who live and work in the forest, are taken into consideration.

Designed for disassembly

Our aim is a circular economy – where the materials used to make our products do not end up as waste but can instead be reused and recycled. As a result, Rationel windows and doors are designed and manufactured to be easily disassembled into individual components, the majority of which can be recycled.
“We have set clear targets for carbon reduction in line with Paris Agreement goals to be net zero by 2050. As part of the Science Based Targets Initiatives (SBTI) we are on a continual path to reduce carbon throughout our production processes, and in collaboration with our value chain partners.”
Allan Lindhard Jørgensen, DOVISTA CEO
For us at Rationel a window is not just a window, and a door is not just a door. In the same way that your home is more than just a physical space, windows and doors are vital components that create a brighter, healthier, safer living environment for you and your loved ones.

A Breath Of Fresh Air

Good air quality is essential to a healthy indoor climate. This requires effective ventilation to ensure the air throughout your home is regularly refreshed. At Rationel, we make ventilation easy and safe even when you are out, with products such as trickle vents that allow ventilation when a window is closed. All our windows and doors also carry the Indoor Climate Label. This certifies that our products do not release any toxic substances into the air, helping ensure a high-quality indoor climate.

Let There Be Light

Daylight is probably the most important feature of a comfortable home and one which can also boost mood and the ability to concentrate. Rationel’s energy-efficient windows and doors are designed to optimise natural light. As each window is manufactured to order, you have the option of installing more – and larger – windows across your home maximising the available daylight. Our triple-glazed windows also make a positive contribution to energy consumption by letting in more light than they emit heat.

Inbuilt Peace & Quiet

A quiet environment is essential for health and wellbeing. While some background sound can be pleasant, too much noise can have a negative impact on quality of life. Living near a busy road or railway can disturb your sleep and cause stress. With Rationel’s acoustic control glazing, our windows and doors significantly reduce levels of perceived noise allowing you to enjoy peace and quiet in every room in your home.

Safe as Houses

Feeling safe and at ease is critical to the enjoyment of your own home. Your windows and doors play a crucial role in keeping your home secure. Rationel products are approved by ‘Secured by Design’. This means that Rationel products can withstand forced entry thanks to features such as reinforced hardware, laminated glass and three-point espagnolette locks.
Upgrading your windows is a long-term investment in your home that pays dividends over time. They enhance energy efficiency, increase property value, and provide lasting comfort and security, making them a smart choice if you are looking to improve your quality of life while adding value to your property.

A Lifetime Investment

At Rationel, we work hard to ensure all our products enjoy a life expectancy of up to 50 years, with minimal maintenance. Every detail matters when it comes to ensuring longevity. We carefully select frame components and finishes with durability and environmental impact in mind. We use natural materials with proven long-term performance and design our products for eventual disassembly.

The Highest Industry Standards

We take pride in the quality, durability and sustainability of our windows and doors. All our products are continuously tested to ensure they conform to the highest industry standards. Our extensive testing programme covers water and air tightness, wind resistance, resistance to forced entry, thermal and acoustic insulation, and safety. Our comprehensive test data provides reassurance of our performance claims. Only two of these tests are mandatory which goes to prove our commitment to the quality of our products and underlines their reputation as a good long-term investment.

Impressive warranty

All our alu-clad windows and doors come with a 12-year warranty. We are confident of the quality of our products, and certain they will perform as expected. Our energy-efficient and long-lasting windows and doors are an investment that offers payback to this generation and for generations to come.
