You may have never wondered how the window replacement actually happens. Maybe because you weren’t interested in the subject because you didn’t have to do it, or maybe because you thought that it’s the window company’s business and all you need to do is pay them for the job. But there are things you must do before they come.
Also, bear in mind two things: window replacement is not cheap and it can be messy. However, both of these “disadvantages” will turn out to be a very good investment, because new windows are energy efficient, safer, modern, more professionally designed and up to date from a standards and safety perspective.
So what do you need to do before the professionals come? First, make sure you meet with them in person, actually get them at your house to see what you want and what you need. Don’t negotiate or discuss the process via email or phone. Then, a few days before the date, call the window company and confirm the installation time and date.
If not all of your windows are going to be replaced, put a sign on the actual windows that you want to replace, like a post-it, a sticker, draw a line etc. (just to be sure)
When the window professional arrives, make sure you go through the whole process one more time before they start. This is when you can find if all your requirements have been understood and will be met.
Before the window replacement takes place, verify if they have protected your floors and spread some cloths on them to prevent any damage. If they haven’t, ask them to.
When they start, don’t get in the way, but stick around and be available.
If your contract also covers old windows disposal, see that they do take them out and take them away. If not, it will be your job to dispose of them, so it might well be worth it to include this as part of their remit.
Depending on the type of windows, a 10-windows job could be completed in one day. If you have less than 10, you can expect the team to finish up that day, if not, expect it to take longer and if that’s the case, don’t remove the cloths, and you might allow them to leave their tools behind. If the job is done, make sure that nothing’s left, especially the cloths. The contract should also cover cleaning the site when the window replacement is done.
In general this is how the job is going to be carried out. If you have unanswered questions, don’t hesitate to write us an email or give us a call. We’re experts in windows replacement.
