This traditional 1930’s redbrick 3-bedroom end of terrace home in the heart of Dublin City was tired and in need of a complete transformation. As a rental property the owner wanted to ensure that the home met all statutory environmental and safety requirements and was future proofed.
Prior to the refurbishment, tenants had reported that the home was permanently cold with noticeable drafts coming from the existing windows and doors. The overall refurbishment included rewiring of the entire home, a 45m2 extension, underfloor, roof and wall insulation and window and door replacement.
Before
When planning the refurbishment, the replacement of windows and doors
was a priority. The original property had single glazed aluminium windows which
were tired, thermally inefficient, and not aesthetically pleasing.
After
Windows and doors that provided low maintenance,
thermal efficiency, were pleasing to the eye and sympathetic to the style
of the home and its surrounding area was a priority
“Prior to the project commencement, the team at Rationel provided great advice and support, they were constantly on hand to answer any questions and to walk me through every step of the project.”
Sean, property owner
Having seen what a neighbor had accomplished with new windows and doors, the owner researched various products available and through research they were immediately drawn to Rationel owing to its quality products and service.
They visited the Rationel Showroom in Dublin where the knowledgeable staff advised on the various options available and the benefits of each one of them. The staff also advised on the correct windows for emergency exit, which is a requirement for rental properties. The owner finally chose AURUPLUS Triple Glazed windows.
“Living on a busy street with constant traffic the idea of having triple glazed windows that not only provided thermal efficiency but were also noise reducing was a huge selling point.”

Creating a Personal Statement
The choice of main entrance doors is very personal and the variety of colour options available resulted in the owner making two visits to the showroom before they finally chose Forma Wood, Olive Green Outside and Signal White Inside.
The owner wanted to ensure that the house had a contemporary feel but also blended with the age and surroundings of the area. The choice of signal white on the inside provided a feeling of increased light and airiness whilst ensuring a warm cozy feel.
Delighted tenants
The final result of the project has resulted in a warm, heat efficient and aesthetically pleasing home that whilst sympathetic to its surroundings is contemporary and inviting. The owner was delighted with the results and their tenants are even more delighted to have a warm, light filled cozy home.
The owner sums it up perfectly in saying:
“The quality of the materials and the attention to the details sets Rationel apart. Their designs are timeless. I highly recommend contacting the team in Rationel. You are not just buying windows and doors, you are designing a whole new home that is environmentally sustainable, thermally efficient, and importantly inviting to all who visit. I cannot thank the team in Rationel enough, their expertise and “can do” outlook clearly sets them apart.”
